Discipline 6 (D6) is the execution phase. This is when the verified solution from D5 is rolled out to the entire production environment. Once D6 is confirmed, the temporary walls of D3 can be removed.

How Do You Validate Without Disrupting Production? D6 requires a project management approach: - ECN (Engineering Change Notice): Formalizing the change in the system. - Tooling Updates: Modifying molds, jigs, or fixtures. - Training: Updating the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and training all relevant operators.

What's a Good Rollback Plan? Validation is different from D5's verification. It is proof that the solution works over time in the real world. - Long-term Capability Studies (Cpk): Showing that the process is stable and centered. - Successive Batch Monitoring: Confirming zero defects over multiple shifts.

Who Signs Off on Implementation? Only after D6 validation is complete can the D3 containment be stopped. This saves the company money and signals that the "emergency" is over.

Real-World D6: Implementing Across 12 Presses

A closed-loop oil temperature controller was deployed to 12 presses across three lines. Install and validate on one press first, monitor for one week, then deploy one press per day. Total cost $18,000. Rollback plan: restore original configuration within 2 hours if instability occurs.

Implementation Validation Protocol

Run three consecutive shifts. Measure Cpk before and after. Inspect 100% of the first 1,000 units. Document operator feedback. If operators dislike the new process, they will find workarounds that reintroduce the defect.
