Editorial Policy

How 8D.wiki articles are written, sourced against IATF 16949 and AIAG references, reviewed, translated and corrected, and how advertising stays independent.

Scope

8D.wiki publishes practical reference material on structured problem solving in manufacturing: the 8D disciplines, root cause analysis, containment and corrective action, FMEA and control plans, PPAP, supplier quality management, and the IATF 16949 requirements that govern them. We publish methodology, worked examples and templates — not news, not product reviews, not link-building articles.

Authorship

Pages are produced by the 8D.wiki editorial desk. Drafts are prepared with AI assistance and then reviewed, edited and formatted by the founder, Alvin Jin (20 years in R&D and quality system development at global automotive component suppliers), against the primary references named in each article.

He does not write the articles — his role is editorial: he sets the technical bar, checks facts, numbers, tables and terminology, and signs off on what is published. That is why his name appears as editor on each page and in the structured data, and the byline names the desk that produced the page.

We do not attribute a page to an individual who did not write it, we do not carry bylines for guest authors who have not done the work they describe, and we do not strip an original byline to make a page look in-house. Articles first published elsewhere are credited to that source.

Sources

Methodology pages are checked against the primary references named in the article — IATF 16949:2016, the AIAG core tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC), ISO 9001:2015 and VDA publications where relevant. Where an article describes OEM-specific practice (for example Ford, GM, Stellantis, BMW/VW or Toyota expectations), it is labelled as customer-specific practice, because those requirements vary by customer and by revision. We do not invent clause numbers, standard numbers or citations.

Use of AI

AI assists with drafting, structure and translation; it does not take editorial decisions.

  • Every page is reviewed by a human before publication: facts, numbers, tables, terminology and the conclusions drawn from them.
  • Translated pages are checked against the English source for numbers, tables and terminology. Terminology is aligned to a fixed glossary so that "technical root cause" is rendered the same way across the site.
  • A page that fails our automated quality check — too short, wrong language, missing sections, repeated sentences — is not published. It is redirected to the source-language version instead.
  • We disclose AI involvement here rather than presenting machine output as human authorship.

Review cadence

  • Core methodology pages (the D0–D8 guides, root cause analysis, containment, corrective action) are reviewed at least once a year.
  • Any page is re-reviewed when a standard or a common OEM requirement changes, or when a reader reports an error.
  • Substantive changes are reflected in the page's publication metadata.

First publication and syndication

A group of Chinese-language articles — the product-development-system and engineering-thinking series — was first published on the WeChat quality-engineering column 弧光星云. Those pages carry that column's byline and a source note in the body, and their translations keep the same attribution; they are not presented as in-house work by the site's author. Every other page is written for 8D.wiki.

We only publish material produced by our editorial desk or explicitly authorised for reproduction, and we never strip an original byline to make a page look in-house.

Corrections

If something is wrong, tell us: [email protected] with the page URL and, if possible, the primary source. We correct factual errors, and for substantive corrections we note that the page was revised. We do not delete a page to hide an error; if a page is retired, its URL redirects to the closest replacement.

Advertising and independence

Display advertising is served by Google AdSense. Advertisers do not review, approve or influence content, and there are no sponsored articles, paid placements or affiliate links inside the wiki. Ads never appear inside the body of a generated 8D report. The report tool is funded by subscriptions; the wiki and the free templates are free.

Comments and reader contributions

We do not publish open comments. Reader input arrives by email, is checked against sources, and — when it improves a page — is incorporated with attribution if the reader agrees.
